Driving with dad can become an act of revelation. Perhaps it is his mood, which opens up the treasure.
He told me about his dad. He said he was a brilliant mind. He never thought about money. Being a doctor with exceptional diagnostic skills, he avoided the obvious. Instead he thought about present and perhaps tomorrow. Nothing further, nothing more. With a modest income, they could have lived like a 'poverty struck family'. Instead He thought well & spent well. Twice in a month, four of them would go to a hotel/ eat out and once in a month, they all would go for a movie.
Dad remarked that grandpa never really thought about 'future of children' if one would relate it with modern times. With a pause, he added that He is one of the main reasons for those obesely large numbers of fond memories. He was certain about the fact that the kids of his age were realistically envious of their childhood.
Without wasting much of the time he analysed the histoire. He explicated that at times he thinks that above average mind is far better than grandpa's brilliant mind. He stated that with the brilliant mind came an extremely disciplined life. But the same brilliant mind offered them an exposure to everything. Dad remembers that he was never tempted to steal. Life was always thrown open to him. He got addicted to that sort of way of life.
Further he said, if parents can offer company/ time for their kids when it's needed, that'll be all! Kids do not need lots of 'quality time' from their parents. Dad told me that as a kid he was given access to two basic most temptations, albeit with control - movies and food outings. He was told that it is possible to access them without much doubt & have fun. It was not taboo. It wasn't about 'family tradition'.
He remarked that the parents asking for therapy regarding bringing up of their children is nothing less than stupid. The irony is that these parents do not have time for their kids but they do have time for therapy sessions. He remarked while fiddling with his phone that they should stop controlling things so much and let them be. The unnecessary question of insecurity towards correct path may come about from the idea of greed. But the tendency diverting towards greed can be controlled by discipline. 'You have access to everything' is the magic spell for a kid... it can be used without failing.
It is popularly said and accepted - "beta toh beta hota hai, baap toh baap hota hai!"
